Key words: problem-based learning, chemistry lesson, critical thinking, problem situation, active learning methods, cognitive activity, logical thinking, analysis, synthesis, innovative technologies.
Annotation. This scientific article examines the theoretical and practical foundations of developing students’ critical thinking in chemistry lessons through the use of problem-based learning technology. In the modern educational system, the development of independent thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities of students is one of the most pressing issues. Problem-based learning is aimed not at acquiring ready-made knowledge, but at encouraging students to search, analyze, and draw conclusions independently. The article reveals the essence of problem-based learning, its specific features in chemistry education, methods of creating problem situations, and their role in the development of critical thinking. It is shown that the use of problem-based tasks in chemistry lessons contributes to the development of logical thinking, analysis, comparison, and synthesis skills. The results of the study indicate that the systematic application of problem-based learning technology increases students’ cognitive activity and has a positive impact on the formation of their critical thinking. The article may be useful for chemistry teachers, students of pedagogical specialties, and researchers in the field of education.
